Back as champs. That's the TT women volleyballers who picked up their 8th CAZOVA title over in Suriname a few days ago.

The local ladies defeated the host nation 3-0 to retain their title, and completed a double success against the Surinamese, whom they defeated 3-2 in a five set thriller earlier in the Group stages.

T&T trailed 7-8 early in the first set, but after a time out, rebounded forcefully and went on to take the opening set 25-21.

They never looked back after that and completed another fine win by cutting out their errors, making only 19 compared to a whooping 47 by the hosts.

Krystle Esdelle top scored for TTO with 20 points out of 40 attempts while Suriname’s Sandrina Hunsel contributed 17 points out of 47 attempts.

TT skipper Renele Forde, said her team dedicated the tournament victory to their colleague Ayana Dayette who passed away on Sunday.

Trinidad and Tobago has now won the Caribbean Championships eight times with the first being in 1996 in US Virgin Islands but this is their 7th consecutive wins. Barbados stunned Bahamas in five sets to take the Bronze Medal in the earlier game.
