Local Rugby Woes

Local rugby is being made to endure an anxious couple of days as they await the decision of the Rugby Americas North (RAN) Association, following a request to have their crucial clash with the Cayman Islands postponed to August 18th.

T&T won both of their matches in the championship division so far. They defeated Bermuda 27-24 at St. Anthony's College Ground last month, before getting past USA South 34-33 at St. Mary's College Ground last Saturday.

A win over the Cayman Islands next will see T&T win the Group and advance to the next phase of the competition later in the year.

But a lack of funding forced the local rugby union to request a postponement of Saturday’s game, because the money wasn't forthcoming.

That has since been sorted out according to the TTRU, who says assurance has been given by the Sports Ministry to provide adequate funding for the trip to the Cayman Islands, albeit a little late for the team to make adequate travel arrangements for this Saturday.

T&T is proposing the game be played on August 18th, instead, at a neutral venue like Jamaica if necessary.

If RAN removes T&T from the standings, the Cayman Islands will advance, and are unlikely to press for the game to be postponed.
