It was not the start the TT ladies envisioned and despite a spirited effort, the TT Female Volleyballers crashed to a 3-0 opening loss at the Norica Women's Challenge Cup over in Alberta, Canada on Thursday night.

A lack of practice and playing time together were cited as the main reasons for the defeat, as the TT ladies went under to Canada 25-12, 25-16, 25-22 in Thursday night's opener.

Former BYU star Alexa Gray led the lady maples with 15 points, cancelling out 11 points each from the tt pair of Darlene Ramdin and Channon Thompson.

Things fell nicely into place for the Canadians with Costa Rica's late withdrawal, which means the hosts are virtually assured of topping Group `A', even if TT wins their re-match on Saturday.

The winner of pool `a' will play the winner of pool `b' for a chance to qualify for the prestigious Nation's League Challenge next.
