On Friday October, 20th 2017, Senator, the Hon. Allyson West, Minister in the Ministry of Finance, met with representatives of the Trinidad and Tobago Members Club Association, to discuss the recent fiscal measures which were announced during the presentation of the 2018 Budget Statement on October 2nd, 2017.

On October 5th, 2017, a letter was received in the office of the Minister of Finance from the Trinidad and Tobago Members Club Association requesting a meeting with the Minister of Finance on the new budgetary measures. Minister Imbert agreed to meet with the interested parties to address their concerns. However, in light of the current Budget Debate in the Parliament, Minister West was asked to meet with the interested parties as it is mandatory that Minister Imbert be present in the Parliament.

Today’s meeting was interactive and the Hon. Minister gave the Association representatives the opportunity to outline their concerns. The Minister stated that it is not the aim of the Government to close the industry but to ensure that the industry, whose members do not pay Corporation Tax, contribute fairly to the public revenue. Minister West further explained that the proposed measures were interim, pending passage of the Gaming Legislation which is to be laid in Parliament before the end of the calendar year. The Minister undertook to discuss the concerns and recommendations of the Association with the Hon. Colm Imbert, Minister of Finance.
