Energy Minister Khan Expected To be Appointed President Of The GECF At Russia Meeting

Senator the Honourable Franklin Khan – Minister of Energy and Energy Industries will be leading a delegation to participate in the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Companies Forum (GECF) and the International Energy Congress “Russian Energy Week” during the period October 3-7, 2017 in Moscow, Russia.

The GECF is considered to be the gas equivalent to OPEC (Organization of Oil Exporting Countries) with its Member Countries accounting for approximately 67% of the world natural gas reserves.

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is expected to attend and address the 19th Ministerial Meeting which is regarded as one of the keynote activities of Russian Energy Week.

At the 19th Ministerial Meeting, the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries of Trinidad and Tobago is expected to be appointed the President of the Ministerial Meeting and the Executive Board Member of Trinidad and Tobago would be appointed as the Alternate Chairman of the Executive Board for the year 2018. As President of the GECF, Trinidad and Tobago is also expected to host the annual Ministerial Meeting in 2018.

Later this year, the Fourth GECF Gas Summit which is a biennial meeting of Heads of State and Government of Members Countries of the GECF is scheduled for November 24, 2017 in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

The current members of the GECF include Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Venezuela. In addition Azerbaijan, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Norway, Oman and Peru are observers.
