The North West Regional Health Authority says it is working assiduously to address issues at the Port of Spain General Hospital as recently highlighted in the media.
In a statement, the NWRHA said a comprehensive infrastructural assessment of the roofing at the facility was previously conducted and works are expected to commence in the near future.
In addressing the sewer blockage which occurred at the institution last week, the authority immediately sought the assistance of the Water and Sewage Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (WASA) and that issue was rectified.
Additionally, the NWRHA said the sudden increase in patient admissions at the institution led to the creation of an additional spill over ward, thereby improving patient flow and optimizing patient care.
The authority went on to say that a supply of IV contrast for CT scans was received on Monday 24thJuly and it will continue to engage the Ministry of Health to regularize the supply of reagents and critical drugs.
