Education Ministry Confirms Most Schools To Reopen Tomorrow - Wednesday 21st June 2017

The Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education has confirmed that most schools will re-open tomorrow, Wednesday, 21st June, 2017.
Following the passing of Tropical Storm Bret five schools have been affected and will remain closed tomorrow as clean-up and sanitisation efforts continue in collaboration with the respective Regional Corporations and other stakeholders. 
 
The affected schools in the Victoria Education District are:
•Debe Hindu SDMS Primary School – which experienced flooding on the ground floor of the compound. Penal/Debe Regional Corporation assisted with restorative works.
•Mayo R.C. Primary School – the roof was partically damaged. Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation was on hand to assist. Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) has offered to assist with material for roof repairs.
 
In the St Patrick Education District the Siparia Regional Corporation was contacted to assist with the restorative works at the schools:
•Fyzabad Anglican Secondary School was flooded. 
•Fyzabad Secondary School – has no electricity on half of the compound as a result of a fallen tree. T&TEC is currently working to restore the electricity service.
•Rousillac Hindu Primary School - Roof partically damaged. Galvanised lifted off. Ceiling soaked.
 
In the Caroni Education District, Durham Village Hindu Primary was flooded and received assistance from the Community-based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme  (CEPEP) with the clean-up and sanitisation efforts.
 
In addition, the following schools are presently being used as shelters to house displaced families in the community and will also remain closed on Wednesday. They are:
•Valencia South Government Primary School
•Manzanilla/Nariva Government Primary School
•Mathura Government Primary School
 
The Ministry of Education is assuring parents and teachers that all efforts are being made to have the schools re-opened on Thursday. Please continue to monitor the news for updates and further information.
