Koylass Sworn-in As JLSC Member, Jameel Jacob Mohammed Sworn-in As Member Of Transport Board

Attorney Ernest Hendren Koylass SC was this evening sworn-in as a member of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC) and Mr. Jameel Jacob Mohammed was sworn-in asa Member of the Transport Board in a double ceremony by His Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona O.R.T.T., S.C President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The ceremony took place today (17/05/2017) at the Office of the President, Circular Road, St. Ann’s.

His Excellency told both me that their competencies, high academia and experience can only redound to the benefit of Trinidad and Tobago.

Mr. Ernest H Koylass SC attended the University of the West Indies, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws Degree (with Upper Second Class Honours) in 1977. He gained his Legal Education Certificate in 1979 from the Hugh Wooding Law School and later went on to the University of London where he gained his Master of Laws Degree in 1980. He is the currently the Principal of his Law Firm Ernest H Koylass & Co, established on 5th August 1994. Mr. Koylass was called to the Bar of Trinidad and Tobago as a Barrister at Law in 1980 from which year he commenced practice, first in the Chambers of Dr. Aneas Wills and later at his own chambers.

He has served as President of the Southern Lawyers’ Assembly and Senior Member of the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago. During the year 1999, he also served as a Temporary Judge of the High Court of Trinidad and Tobago. On 26th January 2006, Mr. Koylass obtained the instrument of appointment from His Excellency the President granting him the status of Senior Counsel.

Mr. Koylass’ areas of practice are diverse and include all areas of Private/Civil Law, including Contract Law, Tort, Criminal Law, Labour Law and Industrial Relations Practice, Constitutional Law, Contentious and Non-Contentious Probate, Family Law and Land Law. He is a specialist in Private Law matter and Litigation. Mr. Koylass SC also appears as Advocate in the Magistrates Courts, High Court, Court of Appeal and Industrial Courts of Trinidad and Tobago.

Jameel Jacob Mohammed obtained his National Technician Diploma in Engineering Surveying with endorsements in Design of Structures and Construction and Construction Materials from the John S. Donaldson Technical Institute in 1980 and his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with Honours from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine in 1998. He completed his Master’s Degree in Construction Engineering and Management at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine in 2001.

He served at the Ministry of Local Government between 1982 and 2015 where he held a number of positions including Road Officer I with responsibility for preparing detailed estimates and engineering drawings for roads, drains, retaining walls and other projects, Building Inspector I with responsibility for inspecting buildings before and after construction to certify conformity to approved plans and specifications and Technical Officer with responsibility for the coordination of professional inputs into the constructing, maintenance and repair of road, bridges , Local Government buildings and drainage works which fall within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Local Government or Cities, Boroughs and Municipal Corporations. He is registered with the Board of Engineers of Trinidad and Tobago and is also a Member of the Association of Building Inspectors of Trinidad and Tobago.
