September 9, 2016–His Worship the Mayor Alderman Haji KazimHosein is pleased to announce that Former Mayor Dr. NaviMuradali has been appointed as the new Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) to the San Fernando City Corporation by the Statutory Authorities Service Commission (SASC). “On behalf of the Aldermen and Councillors of the San Fernando City Council, I warmly welcome Dr. Muradali back to the Council and look forward to seeing him around the newly remodeled horseshoe,” said the Mayor.

The Mayor further stated that he was happy that Dr. Muradali has been appointed since he has a collegial relationship with the current members of Council and Administration, adding, “He already has a great deal of knowledge about the city and the Corporation, and I am confident that he will perform well in this role.” With this appointment, the Mayor looks forward to a continuation of the high quality of the public health monitoring system, throughclearing overgrown lots, removal of derelict vehicles and dilapidated structures, and the fight against zika and other public health threats. “Filling the CMOH position adds another arrow to the quiver for the fight against public health issues in our city, so we can all enjoy a cleaner and healthier San Fernando,” concluded the Mayor.

This position has laid vacant since early 2014 after the end of Dr. Ingrid Poon King’s contract. Since then, the Corporation discontinued contracting this position as it was not financially sustainable. “We have not had an SASC appointed Chief Medical Officer since Dr. Casey Gomes resigned in April 2007, so it is very good that we have finally gotten to fill this position again,” said Corporation CEO, Mr. Indarjit Singh.

Dr. Muradali formerly served as the Chairman of the Public Health Committee when he was Councillor for Les Efforts/East Cipero in 2010. In 2012, he served as the Mayor of San Fernando until current Mayor KazimHosein took over the position in October 2013. He will assume his duties as the Chief Medical Officer of Health at the San Fernando City Corporation on Monday 12 September, 2016.
