The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) along with other supporting agencies continue to prepare the nation for any disaster that the country may face in the future. In anticipation of multiple activities for carnival mass crowd events the ODPM urges all citizens to continue their efforts of preparedness and readiness for any possible emergency situation.
The Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) wishes to advise the public that the Spot Speed Camera Enforcement System has not been officially launched in Trinidad and Tobago. This notice is in response to inaccurate information being circulated in the public domain, regarding the presence and operation of spot speed, fixed cameras and speed traps at various locations across the country.
In response to information being circulated in the public domain that the Traffic Warden Division and the Transport Division have embarked on an initiative to crackdown on vehicles that have not been inspected, the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) would like to maintain that no such action was taken.
The Honourable Justice Rolston Nelson is set to retire in May of this year.
Justice Nelson, who was appointed a Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice in 2005, is currently the longest-serving judge at the court and has acted as the Court President at various times in his tenure.
Route 1, yellow band, maxi taxis have increased their fares by one dollar.
In a statement the executive of the association said this was done After careful consideration and lengthy deliberations. It said it had no choice but to do this.
All destinations from Port of Spain will be increased by one dollar from four dollars to five dollars.
Short drops out of Port of Spain will also be increased by one dollar from three dollars to four dollars.
Short drops within Diego Martin, Petit Valley, Carenage and Maraval will however remain unaffected at three dollars.
These new fares are to take effect from February 6th 2017.
The Honourable Major General Edmund Dillon joined the High Commission of the Republic of India in celebrating its 68th Republic Day anniversary.
Minister Dillon is currently the acting Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs.
Uber, the US based taxi service app, was launched in this country on Monday. However the Ministry of Works and Transport, in a release, raised concerns over the legality of the service in this country.
Their concern is that drivers who are providing service for Uber may be using private cars.
