J'ouvert Celebrations In Tobago

Over in Tobago, J'ouvert celebrations were held at three separate locations: Crown Point, Scarborough and Roxborough.

It was the reign of the Merry Monarch in the Big Yard at the Queen's Park Savannah where Helon Francis captured his first ever Calypso Monarch title.

Police officers have been busy in the Southern Division over the past four days as their anti crime efforts have seen 156 persons arrested, 198 tickets issued, four firearms, which included two pistols, a revolver and an AR15 assault rifle as well as 24 rounds of ammunition, were seized during the raids.

Nine time Calypso Monarch Chalkdust (Hollis Liverpool) will defend his title in position number 9 at the Dimanche Gras on Sunday night at the Queen's Park Savannah.

A third media conference in the space of four days was held by the top brass of the security forces in relation to an alleged threat to disrupt Carnival.

On Sunday Minister of National Security Edmund Dillon told reporters that he was satisfied by the work done by the security agencies of the country to curtail possible danger during the festivities.

Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge

Eleven competitors from across the globe battled it out on Sunday in the finals of the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge. The bartenders demonstrated their inventiveness and skill using Angostura products like their world-famous aromatic bitters.

BPTT Renegades and Pan Elders beat their way to the top of the field on Saturday night to walk away as the 2018 Panorama Champs.

For Pan Elders they regain their title in the medium band category having won in 2017 and for BPTT Renegades this is the first win for the large band from Charlotte Street in 21 years.

It was a double crown for Arranger Duvone Stewart who dedicated the BPTT Renegades win to former Ace steelband arranger Jit Samaroo.

On Sunday, Minister of National Security Edmund Dillon, Acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams and Chief of Defence Staff Hayden Pritchard were part of a press conference addressing a planned threat to disrupt Carnival. It was revealed that an eighth person was detained in connection to the threat and the National Security Minister says he is confident that the work done by the protective services has quelled the possibility of the threat to Carnival.

Five people were arrested by officers of the DUI Task Force for failing breathalyser tests during road check exercises conducted in the Central Division between 4pm on Friday and 3am on Saturday.

Three more people have been held in relation to the threat to Carnival.

This was confirmed by Acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams in a media conference at the Police Administration Building just over an hour ago.
