The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce has voiced its support for the decision to shut down the Petrotrin Refinery.

In a release, the Chamber said, "We believe the company is on the right path to fulfilling its obligations to the State and towards financing its own business requirements."

The release further stated that even though many will be affected, the Chamber trusts that all stakeholders can work together to mitigate the negative impact.

The Chamber said that in today's global business landscape, any entity must be competitive in order to thrive, and this is not achievable without significant changes being made to Petrotrin’s operational structure.

The Chamber of Industry and Commerce finds it unfortunate that the decision took this long to be made, and surmises that the process would have been less traumatic if tougher measures had been taken earlier - when the country was in a better financial position to buffer the impact.
