Is Government gearing up to sell the Petrotrin Refinery? That’s the latest in a number of questions being raised in response to speculation about the future of State-owned Petrotrin.

According to newspaper reports, during a prayer vigil outside the Prime Minister's official residence on Sunday, OWTU Leader, Ancel Roget, expressed his belief that Government plans to sell the refinery.

However, when contacted for further comment, Mr. Roget said the OWTU is withholding all comment on that issue until a meeting with Petrotrin's Board scheduled for Tuesday.

Mr. Roget said a few years ago, the union presented a comprehensive plan for the restructuring of Petrotrin which, according to him, would have resulted in the company being profitable today had it been implemented.

He said on April 3rd, the union signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Board of Directors to restructure the company.

Mr Roget said to date, nothing has been done in that regard.
