Rio Claro Labourer In Court For Rape Of Minor

A Rio Claro man appeared before a Sangre Grande Magistrate charged with eight counts of sexual abuse against a female minor.

Forty eight year old Clint Bittan, a labourer of Tabaquite Road, went before Magistrate Cheron Raphael in the Sangre Grande 1st Magistrates' Court on Thursday to answer five counts of sexual penetration, two counts of grievous sexual assault, and one count of sexual intercourse with a child under 14 years old.

The accused was not called upon to plead and the matter was adjourned to Tuesday 21st August, 2018, before being transferred to the Rio Claro Magistrates' Court.

The accused is alleged to have committed the offences against the victim between the period June 2011 and December 2017 in the Rio Claro district.

A report was made to the police in January by the victim's father and an investigation launched.

The accused was arrested by officers of the Child Protection Unit - Eastern Division on Wednesday 15th August, 2018.
