Minister of Finance Colm Imbert says the Galleons Passage is currently sailing comfortably at 7 knots towards Port of Spain. This in response to what he called "fake news being circulated by desperate Opposition activists".

Minister Imbert posted on Twitter saying the estimated time of arrival to the pilot station is July 16th at 1400LT.

He added this brand new vessel is in perfect condition.

He provided a picture showing the status of the Galleons Passage at this time.

However, despite this assurance former government Minister Devant Maharaj said statements by the Minister of Finance that the Galleons Passage is a "new vessel" has been debunked by the local inspector's report following a visit to Cuba.

He said it is self-evident from the report that the Galleons Passage is faulty and is in immediate need of repairs.

Mr. Maharaj is again asking on what basis was the Galleons Passage purchased by the Government.
