Bandit Killed, Another Wounded In Shootout With Prison Officers

One man is dead after a shootout with prison officers in Arouca on Tuesday night.

According to reports, three bandits entered a Chinese grocery on Golden Grove Road at around 8pm and announced a hold-up.

While the robbery was in progress, two prison officers entered the establishment.

Witnesses claimed that upon realising the officers were on the scene, the bandits opened fire on them.

The officers returned fire, wounding two of the men. A third surrendered to the officers.

The wounded bandits were taken to the Arima District Health Facility, but one of the men, who is still to be identified, died at the hospital.
