The head of the Public Services association says his union has responded to over three thousand breaches of the Occupational Safety and Health act.

He spoke while appearing before the Joint Select Committee on Local Authorities, Service Commissions and Statutory Authorities on Occupational Safety and Health Compliance in the Public Service.

Watson Duke says the act in its intent is good but is not free from political interference.

OSHA addresses a variety of workplace issues including workplace health, safety, welfare, occupational diseases and employment of young persons.

He says this interference has been seen over a number of administrations and he is calling for a change on how inspectors are employed and how they are allowed to discharge their duties.
