An investigation has been launched into a video on social media which appears to depict prisoners sharing food while in a prison cell.

The prisoners are seen serving meals out of Tupperware bowls before showcasing a dance session to the beat of an African drum. All of these events purportedly occur in a jail cell.

A release from the Prison Service said the Commissioner of Prisons is aware of videos circulating on social media which appear to have been recorded by remanded individuals.

It said an investigation has been launched and the appropriate action would be taken in the best interest of public safety and the security of the nation's prisons.
