A new United States Ambassador has been selected by the Donald Trump administration.

On the US Government website, it was announced that Joseph N. Mondello of New York has been selected as Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.

Mr. Mondello is a prominent New York Attorney and has served since 1997.

He served from 2006-2009 as Chairman of the New York Republican State Committee.

The new Ambassador served in the New York Guard for 25 years, attaining the rank of Major General.

His nomination next needs to be approved by the US Senate.

When asked about the nomination, the 80 year old said he has never been to Trinidad and Tobago, but had spoken to a previous Ambassador who held the position a few years ago, who told him "it was really a great position to be in."

Asked about his expectations for the position, he said his job is going to be to help continue the good relationships that exist, to make sure he keeps those going and improve upon those relationships and to try to increase trade.
