The season of Lent begins today, Ash Wednesday.

Deacon Derek Walcott of the Catholic Church says this is a significant time in the Christian calendar when disciples repent, pray and give alms.

The ashes received on Wednesday remind the faithful of their final end.

Deacon Walcott also notes that today is also Valentine's Day.

He says it is a perfect conjunction to recall the devotion of The Lord who is the Greatest Lover.

The Deacon says St. Valentine died for the Lord, and he is calling on the faithful to die to themselves and return to the Lord in faith.
