A Sangre Grande man was shot as he slept in his bed on Tuesday morning.

Twenty eight year old Garth Sansand was at his Machack Street, Foster Road, home when a gunman shot him in the head.

His 17 year old girlfriend was reportedly beside him when the attack occurred. She was spared injury.

She told police they were asleep in his one-room apartment when she was awakened by explosions at around 1:30 am on Tuesday.

She then saw Sansand bleeding next to her and called emergency services.

He was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital where he later died.
