"Unnecessary" Debate On Suspension Of A&V Oil And Gas Contract Comes To A Close

The debate on the Private Motion to suspend the Operations Contract to A&V Oil and Gas Limited, pending investigation into the situation, continued and closed in the Senate on Tuesday.

Minister of Trade and Industry, Paula Gopee-Scoon, along with other Government Senators, argued that continuing the debate was unnecessary as the contract had already been suspended by Petrotrin over the "fake oil" fiasco.

But the Opposition bench questioned the conduct of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley when the matter emerged last year.

Opposition Senator Khadijah Ameen said his decision to call one of the parties involved sent the wrong message.

But Minister Gopee-Scoon said the Prime Minister's action was understandable.
