Port of Spain Mayor Joel Martinez has confirmed that the National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) has provided the City Corporation with sponsorship for 2018 Downtown Carnival.

Earlier this month, there was a letter circulating saying that the NLCB would not able to assist the Port of Spain City Corporation's request.

However, during a Press Conference discussing plans for Downtown Carnival at City Hall on Tuesday, the Mayor said the Corporation received a $50,000 cheque from the NLCB.

The Port of Spain Corporation says it would take at least $1 million to host the events in the capital city.

The Mayor said while other sponsorship has been received, he's still awaiting assistance from the National Carnival Commission.
