The Police Service has launched an investigation into what was a daring and well-orchestrated robbery at the Piarco International Airport just before midday on Wednesday.

The Airports Authority has confirmed the incident occurred at 11:25 am at the cargo facilities of the airport on the Golden Grove Road. According to reports, an Amalgamated truck had arrived at Piarco to deliver cash to go to banking institutions in Tobago.

It's alleged four armed men, who were reportedly dressed in camouflage, with their faces covered, ambushed and held up security officers guarding the cash which had been transferred to a cargo container.

They allegedly made off with about $5 Million. Officers of the Central Division Task Force and Caroni Police responded and a search is on for the suspects.

Police are said to have found a black Hilux that was used as the getaway vehicle in Oropune Gardens.
