The new Political Leader of the Congress of the People, Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan, says while she is pleased about her win, there’s a lot of work that needs to be done to revitalise the party.

Mrs. Seepersad-Bachan was declared the COP Leader when contender, Dr. Sharon-Ann Gopaul McNichol, conceded in the party's internal election on Sunday.

She secured 416 votes to Dr. Gopaul McNichols’ 168.

She extended her thanks to the few hundreds of people who came out to vote.

The new COP Leader has plans to achieve the re-invigoration of the Congress including an intense restructure and community outreach.

Mrs. Seepersad-Bachan said the party wants to stick by its principles and values and by doing so, show the nation that they will remain principled and work for proper governance if elected to power.
