An early morning accident along the Beetham Highway created a traffic headache for many commuters on Thursday.

The two car smash-up, which occurred at around 5am, caused massive backups along the Westbound lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway.

As a result of the traffic, the Ministry of Works opened the Priority Bus Route to light private vehicles from 7am to 9am, as emergency officials worked to clear the smash.

The vehicles were reportedly removed from the highway shortly before 8am.
