The New Play Festival was launched at the Big Black Box on Thursday night.

Chair of the Festival Committee, Michael Cherry, said the aim is to showcase the new work of local playwrights.

He said that the old plays have been revived time and time again, and contends that new stories and ideas are needed to generate new plays.

This, he said, is the way to keep the artform alive.

Local novelist, playwright and short story writer, Earl Lovelace, was among those present at the launch of the New Play Festival.

The New Play Festival runs from November 3rd to 5th, and then again from November 10th to 12th.
