The TTPS is warning motorists to be wary of persons posing as vendors and operating along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway but who are engaged in an extortion scam.

Police say persons engaged in the scam create a situation where their vending carts make contact with the vehicle of an unsuspecting motorist.

The scam artist thereafter accuses the motorist of causing damage to his cart and proceeds, under threat, to extort money from the motorist.

The TTPS is advising motorists that in the event an accident has occurred in the manner as described, a report should be made to the nearest police station.

The TTPS advises against any private arrangement to settle the matter.

Persons who may have fallen victim to this highway scam are urged to come forward and make a report to the police.
