A "handsome victory" for the PNM. Those were the words of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley on Monday night after the party announced that it won seven out of the 14 Corporations up for grabs in the Local Government Elections.

PNM Chairman Franklin Khan had earlier announced that the party had won seven Corporations, five of which were won outright, while the UNC won six. Both parties have tied in one Corporation.

Prime Minister Rowley said the party is pleased with the results and "quite happy to continue governing the country."

Asked about reports on low voter turnout, the Prime Minister said much was done to motivate citizens to come out and vote but low polling in Local Government is the norm.
