12 year old charged in connection with grandma's poisoning

A 12 year old schoolboy is expected to appear at the Rio Claro Magistrates' Court on Tuesday after he was charged for attempting to poison his grandmother over the weekend.

The child, who cannot be named, claimed he was being smothered by his grandmother.

The DPP was consulted after the young boy allegedly confessed to mixing termite poison in his elder relative's food.

Fortunately, the woman survived after being taken to the local Health Centre where she was treated in time.

Officers examining what they called ''a bizarre incident'' had earlier said the charge could fall under the Offences Against the Persons Act, in particular administering a toxic substance with intent to endanger life.
