On behalf of my fellow Aldermen and the Councillors of the San Fernando City Corporation I extend best wishes to our nation's Muslim community on the occasion of Ramadan.

As a follower of Islam I am a true believer that God Almighty has created us for a purpose. Thanks to His grace I have been called to be the first servant to the citizens of the City of San Fernando. Through the teachings of the Islam faith I have been given the ability to listen to the concerns of the people, to learn from my experiences and act as a leader.

As the Muslim community starts Taraweeh Prayers tonight and fasting tomorrow I welcome all citizens of Trinidad & Tobago to share in the lessons of Ramadan and taqwa. Allah states in His Glorious Quran "O you who believe fasting has been prescribed for you as it has been prescribed to those before you in order that you may attain taqwa."

Taqwa is the goal of every practicing Muslim as we seek to focus on our spiritual growth and show forgiveness, compassion and charity to our fellow man.

The ability to ignore the physical attractions of our earthly live for a higher purpose is an important lesson for Muslim and Non-Muslims alike. For as our world becomes increasingly materialistic we must never forget that our human dignity and shared future is determined not by technology nor materiel wealth but by our humanity.
