Legendary Trinidadian sailor, Harold La Borde has died.

According to his niece, Marcia la Borde, the country's first mariner to - sail around the world twice - passed away while on vacation in Grenada on Sunday morning.

From 1969 to 1973 Mr. la Borde and his wife, and son Pierre circumnavigated the globe in his 40-ft ketch, the Hummingbird II.

The family was the first known Trinidadian sailors to complete the feat and as a result, both Harold and his wife Kwailan were awarded, what was then the nation's highest honor - the Trinity Cross.
