As we close out 2017 most of us are anxious to see what 2018 has in store for us as individuals as well as the country.

Among those keen to look ahead are a number of this country’s athletes whose season is almost upon us.

Ruskin Mark has more on two such athletes who copped the top junior awards at the TTOC ceremony recently.

The Men's Mile Relay Team not surprisingly picked up the Sportsman of the Year honour at the annual TTOC awards ceremony held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Friday evening.

Four of the five members of the team were present including Jereem Richards, who copped the People's Choice Award as well.

But the inaugural Future Is Female Award went to national cricket captain Merissa Aguilleira for her outstanding contribution to the national team as well as the West Indies outfit.

Several of this country's emerging track and field stars have just completed an intense three-day camp hosted by the Cougars Athletics Club as they prepare for next February’s Barbados Relay Fair.

T&T Red Force skipper Denesh Ramdin has described his team's 207-run loss to Barbados Pride on Sunday as "unacceptable."

The 4th edition of the Maylee Attin Johnson Initiative Three V Three Kids Football Tournament took place at the Hasely Crawford Stadium training ground recently.

Featuring kids from the under eights all way to under 16 in boys and under 13 to under 17 in the girls the young ones were up for the challenge and a day of fun enjoying the sport they love.

Organizer Maylee Attin Johnson was happy with the turnout of young footballers.

W Connection Wins FA Cup For 5th Time

W Connection was crowned FA Cup champions for the 5th time in their history when they defeated Police FC by three goals to one in the finals played at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Friday evening.

Kent Fuentes has more.

A goal on either side of half time from Surinamese international Dimitrie Apai helped Directv W/Connections lift a record eighth First Citizen's Cup title at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Friday night.

Apai also picked up the finals’ MVP and Best Forward honours as Connections ran off 3-1 winners over holders the TT Defence Force as Ruskin Mark explains.

It's a battle royale in the final of the First Citizen's Cup Series where the defending champs the Defence Force will face seven times former champs W/Connections for all the marbles.

Connections turned back Club Sando 2-0 to reach their tenth final in the competition while the Tetron boys had to dig deep to overcome plucky Pt. Fortin Civic as Ruskin Mark explains.
