BLACK ROCK HERITAGE WAKE UP CALL

When a story is done about the Black Rock Heritage Sea Festival, focus is oftentimes placed on the stage production but our Tobago Reporter, Patricia Nicholson, tells the story of another aspect of the festival known as the "Wake Up Call."

A true Tobago style wake is one that involves lusty singing, vibrant indigenous dancing, local foods and the consumption of alcoholic drinks and even some story telling especially about the departed. The combined villages of Spring Garden, Whim, Union and Mary's Hill re-enacted this decades-long tradition during the Tobago Heritage Festival. Patricia Nicholson tells the story.

If you were in and around the Tunapuna area on Wednesday, you were probably caught up in a bit of traffic. That's because the ODPM and Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation carried out a special simulation exercise in and around Macoya Junction.

Entitled "Exercise Turbulence 2016," the aim is to test the responsiveness of the emergency services, first responders and ODPM in the event of a natural disaster, major accident, or bio hazard threat.
